Florida nurses can encounter licensing issues at application, during practice, after an employer or patient complaint, following a criminal matter, or when another jurisdiction takes action. Nursing cases are governed by Chapter 464 together with the general health-profession provisions of Chapter 456 and Board of Nursing rules.

Common nursing licensing issues

  • Department of Health investigations and investigative letters
  • Allegations involving patient care, documentation or medication
  • Criminal arrests, pleas or convictions
  • Impairment and IPN-related issues
  • Application disclosures and alleged misrepresentations
  • Nursing-school, transcript and educational credential issues
  • Out-of-state discipline and multistate licensure consequences
  • Administrative Complaints and Board of Nursing proceedings

Section 464.018, Florida Statutes, identifies profession-specific grounds for denial or discipline, including obtaining or attempting to obtain a nursing license through knowing misrepresentation and action taken against a nursing license by another jurisdiction.

License Applications and License Discipline provide broader procedural guidance.
