An arrest or criminal charge does not automatically answer what will happen to a Florida healthcare license. Criminal and professional-licensing proceedings are separate systems, and the licensing consequences depend on the profession, offense, disposition, reporting obligations and other facts.
The licensing issue may begin before the criminal case ends
Depending on the circumstances, a criminal matter may trigger a report, application disclosure, Department investigation, employer action, or other regulatory review while the criminal case is still pending.
Not every offense is treated the same way
Florida’s general health-profession statutes and profession-specific practice acts contain different disciplinary grounds and disqualification provisions. The nature of the offense, relationship to professional practice, plea or conviction, and statutory language all matter.
Statements in one case can affect the other
When a criminal matter and licensing investigation overlap, explanations, testimony and documents should be considered in light of both proceedings. A response designed for one forum can have consequences in another.
